2006-04-15 Distribution Release: Aurora SPARC Linux 2.0

Aurora SPARC Linux, one of the very few remaining community projects developing a Linux distribution for the SPARC architecture, has released a new stable version 2.0: "The Aurora SPARC Linux Project is proud to announce the release of Aurora SPARC Linux Build 2.0. The Aurora SPARC Project is an effort to support SPARC (32 and 64 bit) hardware on Linux. Specifically, we rebuild Fedora Core for SPARC. This release is a full tree of SPARC packages that match up pretty closely to Fedora Core 3. You can install it via CD/DVD or via network. This release is our first ’stable’ release based on a 2.6 kernel." See the release announcement for full details and known issues. The ISO images are available for download from a number of mirrors worldwide; here is a quick link to the DVD image: aurora-2.0-sparc-DVD.iso (2,447MB, SHA1).

2005-11-17 Development Release: Aurora SPARC Linux 2.0 Beta 2

Aurora SPARC Linux is a Fedora-based Linux distribution for the SPARC processor architecture. A new beta release of version 2.0 is ready for testing: "It was exactly one year ago today that we had our last release (Aurora Build 1.92), so it seems only fitting that I announce this today: we now have a full tree of sparc packages that match up pretty closely to Fedora Core 3. But here’s the best part: this release comes with bootable installable ISOs! For those of you who have no earthly idea what I’m talking about, allow me to explain. The Aurora SPARC Project is an effort to support SPARC (32 and 64 bit) hardware on Linux. Specifically, we rebuild Fedora Core for SPARC." Here is the full release announcement. The installation ISO images are available for download from this mirror (the first four images contain binary packages).

2004-11-22 Development Release: Aurora SPARC Linux 1.92

This is the second beta release of Aurora SPARC Linux 2.0, a Fedora-based distribution for SPARC processors: "Build 1.92 (Tangerine) has been released, but there are no ISO images. To install it, install 1.0, then follow the instructions here." Additional release information is also available in this earlier announcement: "Like the previous release (1.91), it’s not an installable tree, so again this means no ISOs. In the meantime, we’re refocusing the effort on a new tree, which is currently going to be based on Fedora Core 3. You can follow the daily notes for this work here. Now, I have ’yumified’ the tree, so if you’re feeling really brave, you can always point yum at it, and try to upgrade that way. If you’re running 1.91, you should be able to use yum in that tree. Going from 1.91 to 1.92 is reportedly a fairly painless process." Follow the above links and visit the project’s home page for more information.
