2007-02-05 Distribution Release: BeleniX 0.5.1 DVD
The BeleniX project has released a DVD edition of its OpenSolaris-based live operating system - complete with Java Development Kit, OpenOffice.org, NetBeans and other extra applications: "A DVD release of BeleniX 0.5.1 is now available! This DVD release includes all of the 0.5.1 live CD and adds Java Development Kit 1.6, OpenOffice.org 2.1, NetBeans 5.5 with Visual Web Pack, C/C++ Pack, Profiler and Glassfish AppServer 9, all of the OpenSolaris Developer and Administration documents available from the OpenSolaris Documentation community and desktop shortcuts for all these." The two segments can be concatenated with the "cat" command.

An updated version of the OpenSolaris-based BeleniX live CD has been released: "A new release of BeleniX with several improvements is now available." What’s new? "This release bundles the NVIDIA 3D accelerated driver; updated to OpenSolaris build 52; added a new X.Org configuration utility based on Perl-Curses; updated to Firefox 2.0 and Thunderbird 1.5.0.8; updated to KOffice 1.6.0 which fixes some issues with the earlier KOffice version; this release also bundles the C++ runtime libraries from the SUN Studio Suite; fixed the problematic bug that used to cause a boot-up error after hard disk install in the 0.5 release; fixed several other bugs including a problem with the zone creation script." The OpenSolaris-based BeleniX live CD has been updated to version 0.5: "A new release of BeleniX is available after some delay. This brings in several new features and software upgrades with more upgrades coming soon. As what happens with most deadlines, the plan to implement packaging based on Pkgsrc has been pushed back a little, but it is being definitely worked on. The significant feature of this release: support for read-only mounting and accessing both ext2 and NTFS partitions on either primary or logical partitions; updated to a recent pre-build48 snapshot of OpenSolaris; XFce has been upgraded to 4.4 Beta2...." BeleniX 0.4.4 has been released. What’s new in the latest version of the OpenSolaris-based live CD? "This release marks one more important step for live CD performance. After a couple of months of hacking and testing, this release includes an enhancement to the HSFS filesystem module that improves CD-ROM access time by up to 30%. The source code for the modified HSFS module along with context diffs can be downloaded here. In addition, a bunch of work is going around packaging so the next major release should be complete with packaging based on Pkgsrc." The developers of BeleniX, a full-featured live CD based on OpenSolaris, have announced an updated release - version 0.4.3a: "BeleniX 0.4.3a with JDK 1.5 released! Another release of the live CD this month. The significant feature of this release is the inclusion of JDK 1.5 under the new Distributors License for Java (DLJ) as announced by Sun Microsystems on May 16th in JavaOne. However due to a licensing issue with a required SUN Studio C++ runtime library it is currently an installable bundle and does not execute off the live CD. This is expected to be resolved soon." This is a major performance upgrade and has several fixes: upgraded to the OpenSolaris build 38; developed a new file sorting algorithm to process the DTrace output; changed the dependency of X server to wait for sshd to complete loading; disabled the check for udfs mounts during boot; updated the sort list to reflect initial files being loaded; fixed some installer bugs; a new GRUB boot option to boot with debug and verbose mode enabled; added digiKam, Kompose."
