2007-03-07 Distribution Release: Berry Linux 0.79
Yuichiro Nakada has announced the release of Berry Linux 0.79, a Fedora-based, desktop-oriented live CD with support for English and Japanese. What’s new? The new Berry is built of top of the Linux kernel 2.6.20 with Symmetric multiprocessing support, ndev/udev and bootsplash patches. The live CD technology is provided by Squashfs 3.2, Unionfs 2.0 and FUSE 2.6.3 with read and write support for SSHFS and NTFS file systems. Among package updates, the distribution’s default desktop has been upgraded to KDE 3.5.6, while Firefox now comes in version 1.5.0.10 and Thunderbird is at 1.5.0.9. 3D desktop effects are provided through AIGLX and Beryl 0.2rc1. 2007-01-19 Distribution Release: Berry Linux 0.78
Yuichiro Nakada has announced a new release of Berry Linux, version 0.78, a Fedora-based live CD with support for 3D desktop with AIGLX and Beryl. The new release uses the Linux kernel 2.6.19.2, compiled with symmetric multi-processing support, udev/ndev and boot splash. The live CD employs the latest Squashfs (version 3.2) and FUSE (version 2.6.1) file systems with full NTFS read and write support via the ntfs-3g driver. On the desktop, Berry Linux 0.78 comes with KDE 3.5.5, OpenOffice.org 2.1.0 and Firefox 1.5.0.9. Among the changes in this release, Beryl has been updated to version 0.1.4, WINE to 0.9.27 and xine-lib to 1.1.3, while Vim 7.0 is a new addition to the live CD. Yuichiro Nakada has announced a new unstable release of Berry Linux, version 0.76. According to the changelog, this is the first Berry based on the recently released Fedora Core 6, with most components updated to their upstream versions. Berry Linux 0.76 is based on Linux kernel 2.6.18 with SMP, ndev/udev and bootsplash patches, support for Unionfs 1.4, FUSE file system and proprietary kernel module from NVIDIA, version 1.0-9625. It also includes glibc 2.5, GCC 4.1.1, X.Org 7.1, KDE 3.5.5, OpenOffice.org 2.0.4, Firefox and Thunderbird 1.5.0.8, Xgl/AIGLX + Beryl 0.1.2, MPlayer 1.0rc1. Yuichiro Nakada has released an updated version of Berry Linux, a Fedora-based live CD with support for Japanese and English languages, and with a hard disk installation option. According to the changelog, the latest Berry comes with an updated Linux kernel, version 2.6.18.1, with patches for symmetric multiprocessing and boot splash, and with support for ndev/udev. It also includes the latest MadWiFi wireless networking drivers, version 0.9.2, and updated versions of NVIDIA (1.0-8774) and ATI (8.29.6) proprietary kernel modules. Among other packaging changes, DirectFB has been updated to version 1.0.0-rc1, Qingq to 0.9.1, Whiz to 0.53 with Kimera 1.32, and WINE to 0.9.23. The SCIM and SCIM-Whiz packages for inputting Asian characters have been removed. According to the changelog, Berry Linux 0.74 has been released with the following changes: upgraded a number of popular applications, including Firefox and Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 (both Japanese and English editions); GIMP 2.2.13; WINE 0.9.21 and NdisWrapper 1.23; added Audacious 1.1.2, a free software media player for Linux (a fork of Beep media player); removed Beep, XDirectFB and K3b. This version is based on Linux kernel 2.6.17.11 with SMP, ndev/udev and bootsplash patches, and includes the latest stable KDE desktop, version 3.5.4. Yuichiro Nakada has announced a new release of Berry Linux, version 0.73. The latest release is based on kernel 2.6.17.11 SMP, with ndev/udev and bootsplash patches. Most of the base components come from Fedora Core 5, but the more visible software packages have been upgraded to newer versions; these include KDE 3.5.4, GIMP 2.2.12, xine 0.9.4, digiKam 0.8.2, Firefox 1.5.0.6 and Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 (both English and Japanese editions of the Mozilla products are included), and WINE 0.9.19. The project’s own Rasp-UI window manager has been updated to version 0.04, while several new Japanese fonts have been added (YOzFont, Aoyagikouzan, Gyosho, Decoration).
