2006-09-21 Development Release: KANOTIX 2006-01 RC3
The third release candidate of KANOTIX 2006-01 is out: "Kano has just released KANOTIX-2006-01-RC3. Improvements from RC2: has the newest X.Org 7.1; has the newest version of ntfs-3g; the bug in the installer by acritox has been fixed; UTF-8 is enabled by default; new my-pppoeconf script; boot splash now works by default. Known bugs: USB devices can be safely removed, but the live CD will not eject at reboot; with the live CD please enter the desired resolution in GRUB boot line; F-keys still don’t work in GRUB boot splash." 2006-09-15 Development Release: KANOTIX 2006-01 RC1
The first release candidate of KANOTIX 2006-01 is ready for testing: "Kano has released KANOTIX 2006-01 RC1. KANOTIX is a Linux live CD based on high compression technology initially pioneered by KNOPPIX, but using mostly pure Debian ’sid’. Specifications: kernel 2.6.17.13 with many patches; ACPI and DMA enabled by default; i586 optimization; 192 MB RAM required, 256 MB RAM recommended; Unionfs support (with ’unionfs’ cheat); NTFS-3g support; AVM Fritz!Card DSL support; KDE 3.5.4; ALSA 1.0.11rc4; GRUB boot loader for CD start - ideal for rescue in command line mode; Memtest86+ advanced memory diagnostic tool in the extra menu of the boot loader." 2006-05-14 Development Release: KANOTIX 2006 RC4
A new release candidate of KANOTIX 2006 is now available for download and testing: "Kano has released KANOTIX Easter Edition RC4. The update is available as ISO and as xdelta patches 3 and 4 for Easter Preview RC2. Highlights are: kernel 2.6.16.16; KANOTIX has a patched GRUB configuration that will probably boot of Intel Macs; ISDN works again; NVIDIA drivers are installable in live mode. 2006-04-16 Development Release: KANOTIX 2006 RC2
A second preview release of the KANOTIX live CD is ready for download and testing: "Kano has released a preview of [KANOTIX 2006] Easter Edition. All packages are current Debian ’sid’ as of 2006-04-16 - happy Easter! Highlights are: kernel 2.6.16.5 + patches, X.Org 7.0.12, KDE 3.5.2, KOffice 1.5.0, Firefox 1.5, Thunderbird 1.5. All problems of current Debian ’sid’ packages for X.Org 7.0.12 where fixed for this preview release. The new artwork is not ready and will be in a following release. The only known problem at the moment is ISDN not working with X.Org 7, a fix is in progress." Here is the complete release announcement. 2006-03-11 Development Release: KANOTIX 2006 Preview
Designed specially for the CeBIT exhibition which is currently under way in Hannover, Germany, a new preview release of KANOTIX 2006 is available for download and testing: "The new preview holds newest packages and kernel 2.6.15.6. It is now possible to test the NVIDIA drivers from the live CD without having an Internet connection. They are included as an archive and only need to be installed. Another highlight is the new KANOTIX Control Center "knxcc" to be found in the KDE Control Center under KANOTIX, or in text mode in Konsole. A known bug is that icons will only appear on the desktop after a device has been mounted; an alternative is to use Konqueror media:/ directly." Here is the full release announcement. Happy New Year! The first news item of 2006 is the announcement of the much awaited new release of KANOTIX, a live CD with a reputation for having the best hardware auto-detection and auto-configuration on the market. Released in the dying minutes of 2005, KANOTIX 2005-04 features: "kernel 2.6.14.5 with numerous patches; udev 0.079 and new hardware recognition (hwsetup-ng) - no kudzu based recognition anymore; new graphical installer with update feature; ACPI and DMA are activated by default; kernel optimised for modern CPUs - i586 and x86_64; X.Org 6.8.2 for full support of NVIDIA and ATI cards; KDE 3.4.3; Firefox 1.5; OpenOffice 2.0.0; Unionfs support; AMSN 0.95 instant messenger with video support...."
