2006-07-11 Development Release: SimplyMEPIS 6.0 RC3
Warren Woodford has announced the availability of SimplyMEPIS 6.0, Release Candidate 3. What’s new? "The display layout of the ’settings’ kioslave has been tweaked in response to tester feedback. ’Setting’ are system configuration utilities. It’s hoped the new layout will be easier to navigate. The RT2400 and RT2500 wireless tools have been added to settings. Khotkeys now works with settings in KDE 3.5.3. For better integration with KDE, MEPIS has been removing utilities from the MEPIS OS Center and rewriting them so they can be placed in appropriate categories in settings. 2006-06-21 Development Release: SimplyMEPIS 6.0 RC2
The second release candidate of SimplyMEPIS 6.0 is out: "MEPIS has uploaded RC2, a new release candidate of SimplyMEPIS 6.0. RC2 adds bug fixes, security updates, and screen resolution detection. By popular demand, the apt-notify applet was improved to support transparency in the panel. Firefox runs much faster out-of-the-box, due to some configuration improvements suggested by the community. RC2 incorporates more security updates from the Ubuntu Dapper pool, including a security patched version of the 2.6.15 kernel. 2006-06-15 Development Release: SimplyMEPIS 6.0 RC1
After five beta releases, the first release candidate of SimplyMEPIS 6.0 is available for download: "MEPIS has announced RC1, the release candidate of SimplyMEPIS 6.0. RC1 contains KDE 3.5.3, the latest security updates, an improved USB media handler, and the CD is compressed with SquashFS. The ISO image is available for download and test in the mepis ’testing’ subdirectory at public mirrors and the MEPIS Subscriber’s Site. With feedback and suggestions from the community, a number of small bugs were fixed. During the next week or two more bugs will be fixed and the MEPIS utilities will continue to be restructured. 2006-06-06 Development Release: SimplyMEPIS 6.0 Beta 5
The fifth beta of SimplyMEPIS 6.0 has been released: "MEPIS has released beta 5, the final beta, of SimplyMEPIS 6.0. Beta 5 includes a few changes in applications and components. Lame, 915resolution, and VMware kernel support were added to the bootable / installable CD. Acpi-support and klaptop have been replaced by kpowersave. This has resulted in reports of better out-of-the-box suspend-to-ram and suspend-to-disk functionality for laptops. Kde-systemsettings was replaced with ’MEPIS System Settings’ which is a custom configuration of the standard ’settings’ kio-slave." Read the rest of the press release for further information. 2006-05-28 Development Release: SimplyMEPIS 6.0 Beta 4
The fourth beta of SimplyMEPIS 6.0 has been released for download and testing: "Warren Woodford of MEPIS has released beta 4 of SimplyMEPIS 6.0. Beta 4 includes some new and/or updated applications including amaroK 1.4, XaraLX 0.5, and ksudoku. digiKam plugins were added to make digiKam and showFoto much more powerful and fun to use. To make room for XaraLX, it was necessary to remove tvtime and the GIMP from the bootable CD, but for those who need them, they are available for download and install via the Synaptic download manager or apt-get."
