This release provides: better platform support - 64-bit platforms are supported again; massive synch-up and cleanup of the userland; Nexenta OS Installer, re-designed and optimized for speed; Nexenta OS hardware database. Alpha 4 is based on OpenSolaris build #36, non-DEBUG kernel. In addition to InstallCD and LiveCD, we now provide a pre-installed VMware image that can be ’played’ in VMware Player." 2006-02-23 Development Release: Nexenta OS Alpha 3

The third alpha release of Nexenta OS, a new operating system combining the OpenSolaris kernel with Debian GNU/Linux utilities and packages, is now available. What’s new? "This release contains 3,596 packages, and in particular: OpenOffice.org 2.0 (distributed with both InstallCD and LiveCD); storage subsystem; OpenSolaris build #34, non-DEBUG kernel. The LiveCD ’Alpha 2’ problem is now fixed. Also, we were able to fit in the entire OpenOffice 2.0 suite (110MB compressed) into the LiveCD image, and still keep the result below 700MB, which is suitable for most CD writers. The trick: ZFS compression. NexentaOS Installer: added time zone management." Read the full release announcement for further details.
