2006-03-15 Distribution Release: Source Mage GNU/Linux 0.9.6

Source Mage GNU/Linux 0.9.6 for i486 and PowerPC processors has been released: "’Guidance’ ISO Release 0.9.6 stable PPC and x86. Our first stable PPC ISO release in a very long time. The PPC installer now has all the nice features that the x86 installer has. Main new features: a ’dependency’ scheme that will make sure you don’t accidentally skip a vital step or do things in the wrong order - you can still override dependencies if you really know what you’re doing; spells get installed in the background while you are busy selecting options; software RAID support via mdadm." Read the release announcement for further details. Download: smgl-0.9.6-i486.iso.bz2 (205MB, MD5) or smgl-0.9.6-ppc.iso.bz2 (208MB, MD5).

2005-10-17 Distribution Release: Source Mage GNU/Linux 0.9.5

A new version of the source-based Source Mage GNU/Linux distribution has been released: "After a few release candidates, the new stable ISO is ready! There’s not much to say that hasn’t already been said. I’ve personally installed 3 or 4 systems that are getting good use on this ISO. But if you’ve missed out on the other emails, 0.9.5 features: a new completely revamped installer; significantly newer versions of spells; was generated using a repeatable system (this is a big feat); is extremely cool! Download and convert your friends to Source Mage today! I’d like to thank the members of the Cauldron Team for all the hard work they’ve done making this ISO happen." Here is the full release announcement. Download: smgl-0.9.5-i486.iso.bz2 (174MB, MD5).

2005-07-18 Development Release: Source Mage GNU/Linux 20050718

The developers of source-based Source Mage GNU/Linux have released a new installation CD image for testing: "After many, many hours of development and hard work by BearPerson, the Next Generation Installer is ready for testing. This is a development ISO and potentially loaded with bugs and glitches. This is where you come in. We need your help to squash these bugs. Please download, burn, and install this ISO to a spare partition, extra computer, or over your least favorite friend’s Windows partition. VMware or Bochs works too. Upon finding a glitch, please report it in Bugzilla." Find more details in the release announcement. Download: smgl-devel-2005071801-x86-2.6.12.2-newgen.iso.bz2 (163MB, MD5); also available via BitTorrent.

2004-10-28 Distribution Release: Source Mage GNU/Linux 0.9.3

New ISO images of Source Mage GNU/Linux for x86 and PPC architectures have been released: "A new ISO has been released and for the first time, it’s available on x86 and PPC at the same time. It has been built entirely with scripts using the stable sorcery and stable grimoire. Boot loader (lilo/grub/yaboot) configuration has been rewritten from scratch and has been tested with or without a separate /boot partition. Both ISOs use the 2.6.8.1 kernel. The PPC ISO takes care about loading the temperature driver to avoid overheating (and thus damages)." Read the announcement and this readme for further information. Download: smgl-0.9.3-i386.iso.bz2 (153MB) or smgl-0.9.3-ppc.iso.bz2 (153MB).

2004-09-22 Distribution Release: Source Mage GNU/Linux 0.9.2 (PPC)

A new release of the PowerPC edition of Source Mage GNU/Linux is now available: "I am proud to announce the new release 0.9.2-ppc ISO. What’s new since 0.9.1-ppc ISO? Using a 2.6.8.1 kernel; NPTL; native support of udev; works better; yabootconfig from the installer works properly; mkreiserfs binary is no longer missing on the ISO so you can choose to create a ReiserFS partition; more complete keymap selection; you can do a ’cast linux’ and select 2.6.8.1 kernel version (it wasn’t possible with 2.6.5-rc3-ben0). Please check the README in the download directory. Have fun!" This is the full announcement. Download: smgl-0.9.2-ppc.iso.bz2 (256MB).

2004-03-07 Distribution Release: Source Mage GNU/Linux 0.9.2

Updated Source Mage GNU/Linux ISOs have been released: "A new pair of ISOs are available from here. A choice of either a 2.4.25 or 2.6.3 kernel is available. The actual installed system will be identical except for the kernel difference. The 2.6.3 version is purely a courtesy to those already running 2.6.X and nptl glibc. The changelog for this release is in the same place as the others. Please remember to say which kernel you are using if you are reporting a bug." The full announcement. Download: smgl-0.9.2-i386-2.4.25.iso.bz2 (127MB) or smgl-0.9.2-i386-2.6.3.iso.bz2 (134MB).
