2007-03-08 Distribution Release: StartCom Enterprise Linux 4.0.4
StartCom Enterprise Linux, a distribution built from source RPM packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, has been updated to version 4.0.4: "Ahead of a busy spring season and in anticipation of new StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-5 and StartCom MultiMedia Edition ML-6 comes an updated release of the Advanced Server 4 series. The fifth release of this enterprise class operating system is the natural combined continuation of the previously released AS-4 distribution, which includes security updates and minor adjustments. Notable are an updated kernel, security updates for PHP, Firefox and Thunderbird, but also some additions and improvements for smart cards and hardware tokens." 2006-09-18 Distribution Release: StartCom Enterprise Linux 4.0.3
StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-4.0.3 has been released: "With the fourth release of the Advanced Server 4 series, StartCom confirms its commitment for the continued and free distribution of the StartCom Linux operating systems and the updating and maintaining of their software packages - which results in a range of secure, stable server and multimedia platforms. The just released AS-4.0.3 (’Barak’) features more than 300 updated packages in addition to other minor changes. One of them is the dropping of the popular Ethereal network sniffing tool, instead the forked version of Ethereal, called Wireshark was added." Here is the brief release announcement. 2006-08-29 Distribution Release: StartCom Enterprise Linux 3.0.6
Eddy Nigg has released an updated version of StartCom Enterprise Linux 3 series: "The legendary StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-3 is the first updated distribution release after the summer break, out of a series of update releases scheduled for the coming month. The release of AS-3.0.6 (Maccabee) features about 300 updated packages. Since the last release of the AS-3 series, the popular Ethereal network sniffing tool was forked to a new project called Wireshark. This change is reflected in this release, but also the newest Firefox and Thunderbird packages are included again." Read the rest of the press release for further information. After two development builds, version 5.0.5 of StartCom MultiMedia Edition has been released: "StartCom has released its new Multimedia Edition, ML-5.0.5, code named ’Kessem’. It’s probably one of the largest and most complete Linux distributions ever released to the public. Release ML-5.0.5, offers many ’out-of-the-box’ capabilities, never bundled with an operating system before. Designed as a multimedia workstation with music studio and advanced video editing applications, it also provides the desktop user with the most applications for day to day use." 2006-05-20 Development Release: StartCom MultiMedia Edition 5.0.5 RC2
Eddy Nigg has announced the second release candidate of StartCom Multimedia Edition 5.0.5: "With more than 200 updated and added software packages, the second release candidate of the new MultiMedia Edition ML-5.0.5 is on its way to the download mirrors. For RC2, the DVD image for the i386 architecture can now be burned using regular DVD devices. The x86_64 architecture requires a double layered DVD or an installation via network or hard drive. We added more supported file systems to the kernel (namely SMB and NTFS), easier printing of multiple images, and kino (video editing)." Read the full release announcement for further information.
