2006-12-13 Development Release: Symphony OS 2006-12 (Beta)
After a long, involuntary break, the Symphony OS project is back with a new development release - version 2006-12: "The Symphony OS Project is pleased to announce the release of Symphony OS 2006-12. This release, the first since May, brings more stability and enhanced features to the young desktop environment and Linux distribution. Based on Debian Testing, Symphony OS 2006-12 now includes the GNOME System Tools within its System target menu, finally providing GUI system management functions that were sorely missing from previous releases. 2006-05-18 Development Release: Symphony OS 2006-05 (Beta)
Ryan Quinn has announced a new beta release of Symphony OS 2006-05: "The Symphony OS Project has officially released Symphony OS 2006-05 BETA, the first official beta release and first release in nearly six months. 2006-05 BETA includes many of the improvements and bug fixes included in the limited release 122 from late 2005 along with: OneClick software installation system - a simple tool which can be used free of charge to install software from the OneClick software store; Debian ’testing’ base system; Linux-Live - Symphony OS 2006-05 BETA is shipped as a live CD with a hard drive installer...." 2005-10-26 Development Release: Symphony OS Beta 1 PR1
After a series of alpha releases, the much anticipated Symphony OS distribution has entered a beta testing phase: "The first Preview of our Beta 1 release has now been released. While this release does not contain all items scheduled for the first beta it does represent a significant leap forward from the Alpha 4 release. Some notable changes in this release include: improved stability in mezzo; new faster orchestra renderer now using .orchestra for it’s profile; updated applications; added Totem media player; build no longer uses set Knoppix paths so it can be installed and used multi-user with GDM or KDM...." 2005-08-03 Development Release: Symphony OS Alpha 4
Symphony OS is a Debian/KNOPPIX-based desktop distribution with some radical ideas about ease of use. Alpha 4 has just been released: "I am proud to announce the official release of Symphony OS Alpha 4. Alpha 4 includes the KNOPPIX version of the 2.6.11 Linux Kernel and an updated base based on Knoppix 3.9, numerous improvements to the Mezzo Desktop environment, includes synaptic for package management, beagle for local searching (though this is just an initial implementation), supports freedesktop.org .desktop files in the Programs target, and much more."
